VISUAL DEVELOPMENT

Brief

A visual development project reimagining the Brothers Grimm telling of Hansel and Gretel. The project draws inspiration from Swiss culture and
Tim Burton–inspired stylization, exploring logo design, character design, prop design, and environment design to create a darkly whimsical and immersive retelling of the classic fairy tale.

1.0 LOGO DESIGN

The logo design for this Brothers Grimm Hansel and Gretel project draws inspiration
from films such as Alice in Wonderland, Glass Onion, Edward Scissorhands, and The Nightmare Before Christmas. The design explores whimsical typography and a slightly dark, storybook aesthetic to capture the fairy tale’s eerie yet enchanting tone. The logo sets the visual foundation for the project, establishing a distinctive and memorable identity for the reimagined world.

2.0 PROP DESIGN

I designed the witch’s cottage as a whimsical prop on a small island in the middle of
a lake. Made of gingerbread, peppermints, and cotton candy, the design combines playful textures and exaggerated forms to create a magical, storybook-like centerpiece.

3.0 character DESIGN

For this project, I reimagine the witch with designs inspired by the costumes and
masks worn at Basler Fasnacht, the biggest carnival in Switzerland. The character
has two designs: her unassuming form as an elderly woman living in a cottage made
of confections, and a transformed villainous state, highlighting her dramatic shift into
a menacing presence.
